These are our four fur children. They are our companions, our confidants, our therapists, and our best friends. They are apart of our family. They rely on us for protection, shelter, affection, and food... So it is our duty to only provide them with the safest and most stimulating environment. Our dogs are so spoiled, we always joke that the poor things have such a ruff life. They just get to go on too many walks, have endless rides, get constant belly rubs, free reign of the house and yard, sleep all day, get treats everyday, choose from mounds of toys... it has got to be pretty ruff.
Anyhow! So our dogs absolutely love to have something to chew on and keep busy with. Pig ears, rawhide, pizzle, bully sticks, antlers, etc. The only problem with this though, is that some of these treats that our pets love so much can actually be very dangerous. You see, legally pet food manufacturers can make the "made in the U.S.A." claim as long as the product was assembled in this country – even if the ingredients are imported. So when you buy treats that say "made in the U.S.A." , be aware that you could be getting the remains of an animal raised and slaughtered in another country. After the corpses are shipped here and sold for dirt cheap, they then are used for your pet's treats. Often, in these countries there are no regulations when raising animals like we have here in the USA. This can make our furry loved ones sick. So it's not enough that a product claims to be "made in the U.S.A." You want to be sure all the ingredients originated here as well.
A high-quality pet treat will not contain grains or unnecessary fillers, rendered animal by products, added sugar (sometimes hidden in ingredients like molasses and honey), chemicals, artificial preservatives, or ingredients known to be highly allergenic to pets.
Pet food companies have become an important waste disposal vehicle for the human food industry. A sinister way for manufacturers to use — and profit from — their own garbage. Many companies legally practice turning their own worthless by-products into dog food and treats. And, of course, profit.
For proof, look no further than this list of unsavory ingredients. Yet even though they’re appalling, each one can be lawfully used to make dog food and treats:
Slaughterhouse waste (organs, heads, hooves, beaks)
Expired laboratory animals (monkeys, rats, guinea pigs)
Bread and cereal rejects (cobs, stalks, mill sweepings)
Dying, diseased and disabled farm animals
Road kill (deer, skunks, raccoons)
Contaminated grain middlings
Distiller fermentation waste
Euthanized cats and dogs
Spoiled supermarket food
Dead zoo animals
In addition to all of this, how long do some of these products sit on the shelves? Some that we look at have an expiration date two or three years out sitting at room temperature on a shelf. You cannot tell us that there are not a bunch of chemicals and preservatives used to keep these products good. Not to mention, many of these treats are cooked or baked and break apart easily. We don't want our fur babies to have to go to the vet!
And so Ruff Life Dog Bones LLC was born. We wanted to know what we were giving to our fur babies. We wanted to be rest assured that we could give them something that they enjoyed, yet was healthy, natural and safe.
First, we found a local butcher that we could trust in our community. We wanted to make sure that these animals were born and raised on US soil and humanely slaughtered. We then spent many months perfecting beef bones for our pups. And finally, it all came together with an awesome recipe for an awesome product. Bones that do not splinter or shard, are not cooked, and are only sourced from human grade beef born and raised here in the USA. And of course, smoked only with 100% all natural hickory smoke at very low temperatures for long hours. Why hickory smoke? Mesquite is not good for your pet and who wants to eat their beef the same way everyday? .
Now, we are reaching out to our community to educate and help give an option for a safe treat for pets. We donate 10% of our business back to local fosters and rescues. That is 5 bones for every 50 we sell! We hand deliver our bones every Sunday in our community for free and our product is ALWAYS pulled from our smoker the SAME DAY that it is delivered to the door or shipped out.
Now we want to share it with you and your fur family!
